The African Music International Society of New York (AMISNY) was formed to nurture and stimulate African music in New York, and to educate and provide meaningful programming and experiences to New Yorkers and visitors. Our main operating guidelines are as follow: First, we are the premiere source for reliable African music appreciation, education, enrichment, and entertainment presentation in New York. Second, we plan to make African music as accessible as possible to new audiences, reduce the production costs, and provide African musicians more performance opportunities in New York.
There is no organization that provides the quality African arts education, entertainment and emphasis that Amisny will provide to New Yorkers and visitors. With our singular focus on Africa, we will offer constantly evolving programming, with an emphasis on modern African music.
Amisny asserts that it is essential that the different African cultures have a noticeable presence and be adequately represented in New York’s vibrant art scene because the city of New York is an important center for music, visuals arts, dance and theater, and is a major center of the global art market. Music and Rhythm, in their countless variations, are a central part of African culture so there is a vast catalogue of works to be presented.
